What color should you paint your bedroom? Posted on Nov 07th 2019
You just moved into a new home or you are looking to make gradual updates to your home¬— a good place to start is the master bedroom. But what kind of feel do you want in your bedroom? The color that you decide to paint your bedrooms’ wall(s) will completely determine the feel that the room will have. Let’s look at what/how certain colors create the mood and feeling in a room.
Blue & Green: Are you looking to create an oasis where you can escape? A place where you feel calm and relaxed? Cool colors are ideal for creating this feel. These are the best colors to choose for a sanctuary where you can rewind after a long day. But make sure you are choosing soft hues in blue and green, as bright and dark hues will add a completely different feel to your room. A dark blue such as navy is a nice color to choose if you are looking for a cozier, modern feel.
White, Gray & Beige: Neutral colors are a good option for wall paint if you have large accent furniture that you want to be the focal point of your room. Bright white is a great way to add a contemporary and luxurious feel to the room. Gray and beige tones can add a contemporary feel or a modern feel to your room depending on which is more your style as well as the style of your furniture.
Red, Pink and Purple: These warmer toned colors will not give you the opposite feeling of an oasis— a feeling of excitement and creativity. Brighter tones are best for children’s’ bedrooms, where, darker, richer hues of these colors can create a feeling of coziness and warmth. If you do choose a warmer hued color, especially a dark color, it’s a good idea to consider painting just an accent wall. This way the room does not feel and look smaller than it is.
You can always consider painting an accent wall with any of the colors discussed above. This gives you the pop of color (or neutral tone) that you’re looking for without overpowering your room. Your furniture can then play off that color and pull it all together.
Be sure to understand the type of feel that you are looking to create in your master bedroom before choosing a color— it will make choosing a color easier. Visit your local home store to pick out samples and test them on your walls. You won’t truly know if you like a color unless you test them out. You may love a color on the swatch but you may find that you dislike how it looks on your wall or with your furniture. Once you find a color, start painting away. Good luck!
